David Hartill, Operations Director

Tell us about your work background.

“I have worked in Building Control for over 22 years in both public and private sectors, covering a wide portfolio of projects including Sports Stadia, High Rise Residential Blocks, Schools, Hospitals etc.”

What does your role at Cook Brown entail?

“I am currently supporting the London team and looking to grow this region in our capital City, with experienced, ambitious technical surveyors who want to contribute to the continued success of Cook Brown and support our clients on some very exciting projects.”

What do you do to relax outside of work? (hobbies, interests, holidays, events)

“I am a big believer in keeping fit and regularly visit the gym in my lunch hour. Family holidays and more importantly family time is a must and that gives me the work/life balance that a critical. I am also planning to trek the Inca trail to Machu Picchu when the family allow me.”
 

Daniel Hawken, Principal Building Control Surveyor

Tell us about your work background.

“Prior to working at Cook Brown Building Control, I have gained extensive knowledge in Construction and site management with experience in both residential/ commercial and warranty inspections.”

What does your role at Cook Brown entail?

“As a Principal Building Control Surveyor within the London team, I deliver a professional Approved Inspector Service to all of our clients, ensuring all construction projects meet the relevant Building Control Standards, helping with any technical enquiries for clients and providing support to all of my colleagues.”

What do you do to relax outside of work? (hobbies, interests, holidays, events)

“During my spare time, I enjoy taking part in sports such as football, fishing, and golf.”
 

Ben Bennett, Building Control Surveyor

Tell us about your work background.

“I started work as a Trainee Building Surveyor for a Property Developer prior to spending a few years working as a Building Control Surveyor for an Approved Contractor. I then worked as a Project Manager for a Design and Build company based in Northwest London before joining the Cook Brown Building Control London team.”

What does your role at Cook Brown entail?

“As one of the Surveyors within the London team, I am responsible for providing excellent service to all of my appointed clients and assisting them to achieve compliance in a positive and collaborative way. My role involves undertaking Plan Assessments, Site Inspections, and offering Technical Advice throughout the life cycle of a project. From my background as a Building Contractor and working with various Building Control Inspectors, I have found that apart from their technical knowledge, the attributes of diligence, responsiveness, pragmatism, and honesty were key, and these are values I try to uphold in my current role.”

What do you do to relax outside of work?

“Outside of work, my time is mostly spent with my partner and daughter. We have an allotment, so we like spending a lot of time down there in a fierce and bloody battle with weeds, moles, and slugs.”
 

James Doherty, Building Control Surveyor

Tell us about your work background and what your role at Cook Brown entails.

“I started working for Cook Brown Building Control as part of the London team in 2015. I am a London-based Surveyor dealing with a varying size of domestic residential schemes to small-scale commercial projects.

On a daily basis as a Building Control Surveyor, I provide advice and guidance to all of our clients, carry out site inspections, plan check reports, and issue relevant notices and certificates to ensure that all construction projects meet the relevant standards.”

What does your role at Cook Brown entail?

“I joined Cook Brown Building Control in December 2022 based in the London office as a Building Control Surveyor. As part of my role, I deal with everything from domestic to small-scale commercial projects.
 
As an experienced Technical Consultant, I provide advice and guide our clients on their projects, carry out site inspections, plan checks, and issue the relevant notices and certificates for their projects.”
