Getting to know our new Associate Director, Andrew Wilkes

Andrew Wilkes joined us in May as a new Associate Director. Andrew has an extensive career in Building Control and has a lot of ideas and knowledge to bring to the team.

We caught up with Andrew to find out more about his job history, his new role and about what he gets up to outside of work.

Tell us about your work background

“I started my career in construction after leaving school in 1990, working for various architectural practices as a technician.

I made the move into Building Control in 1998 as a trainee at what is now North Worcestershire Building Control. I then migrated over to private Building Control, primarily to gain more experience in the commercial sector, where I specialised in residential care and defence projects. After building a successful midlands team at my former employer, I worked my way up to Associate Director level.

I feel that my architectural background, and broad building control experience, helps make me a key member of the design team”

Tell us about your new role

“I initially want to build on the success of the fantastic team of surveyors we already have working for Cook Brown Building Control in the midlands. I want to use my breadth of experience to further develop the midlands team, as well as the wider group. I am passionate about providing a quality, customer focused, service to our clients.”

Tell us about you, what do you get up to outside of work?

“Married with three children, two dogs and a cat (that we only see when she is hungry).

Hobbies include anything outdoors. I used to love playing Rugby until it started to hurt, but now I like watching live sport especially my son’s football. For my sins I am a closet Man United fan.

I love listening to music especially alternative/indie from all era’s (but the 90’s were the best :o) although, strangely my first concert was T’Pau (I know, but it was the 80’s and I was easily influenced).

I like to watch films and have recently started binge watching box sets – My kids have got me into Stranger Things and Killing Eve 😊.”

Tell us a random fact about yourself:

“I once got stranded in Edinburgh during Storm Ciara after watching the Calcutta cup and had to get a taxi home to the midlands…”
