Juniper Homes have taken the opportunity to carefully restore a landmark site in Bristol’s City Centre back to its former residential use. The site has been home to a Manor House since 1552 – the first of which was demolished and re-built in the 1730’s by then owner John Cossins, who commissioned Architect, John Strachan, to design and build the Palladian-style building, that we know today as Redland Court.

Over the years the estate has been passed through residential owners until 1884 when the newly formed Redland High Girls’ School moved into Redland Court. From here, buildings continued to be added to the grounds including a School Assembly Hall, The Science Building, a Gymnasium, Library and Tennis Courts. The school operated on the grounds for over 125 years, including during the war when the cellar was used as air-raid shelters.

Today these history-rich buildings will be combined with new structures and transformed into a mixture of 44 apartments, duplex and town houses to create luxurious urban living.  The design includes: the restoration of several Grade II Listed features; a planting schedule to create beautiful private landscaped grounds for the residents to enjoy; and many apartments will include private terraces or balconies to enjoy the exceptional city skyline view.

We were appointed by Juniper Homes to provide full Building Control services for these residential units and to date we have issued our plan check reports, submitted the statutory consultations, attended design team meetings and undertaken site visits at the necessary stages.

“We have been working with Juniper Homes for a number of years and have collaborated with them on numerous residential projects across this city. It is fantastic to continue developing our working relationship with the appointment of our services on the regeneration of this city landmark. Listening to the stories that these buildings hold, is a vital reason why this project is so great; it has offered this piece of history the opportunity to extend its life and create a place that many more people can enjoy for years to come.”
