PROJECT OVERVIEW
We were appointed as the Building Control provider on this seamless transformation of an aging educational facility into a state-of-the-art learning environment. It entailed the demolition of two classrooms and the subsequent construction of three new, modern science classrooms, with the unique challenge of working around a 140-year-old garden wall.
The primary objective was to create a single-story
construction that harmoniously integrated with the existing
structure. This involved cutting new large openings into the old garden wall, introducing a pitched roof, and adding a glazed front to the courtyard. The science labs were a key component, featuring advanced technology such as NVHR ventilation systems and intelligent lighting to enhance the overall learning experience.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
To meet contemporary standards, the building was constructed with high U values, ensuring optimal insulation. The design also prioritised air-tightness, with air leakage kept below 3. This commitment to energy efficiency aligns with modern construction practices and contributes to long-term sustainability.
One of the most remarkable achievements of this project was the delivery of a flawless final product. The facility was handed over to the school with zero defects, underscoring the commitment to quality throughout the construction process.
CONCLUSION
This project highlights the successful collaboration between modern construction practices and historical preservation. The revitalisation of the educational facility not only met but exceeded expectations, providing the school with cutting-edge science classrooms that enhance the overall learning environment. The project’s early completion and impeccable quality stand as a testament to the expertise and commitment of the construction team.
