As a company, we strive to be a big advocate of continuous training and development for our employees to benefit the individual, our company and the construction industry. As such, we have recently welcomed two Trainee Building Control Surveyors – who are embarking on virtual training programmes to achieve technical excellence in their chosen profession, to our growing technical teams.

Issy Gilbertson based in our Portishead office, and Harkirat Chatha, based in our Birmingham office, both joined us earlier this month as Trainee Building Control Surveyors and are undertaking an NVQ Level 4 Diploma in Building Control Site Inspection and Plan Assessment in conjunction with Total Training and Development Ltd, to further develop their technical expertise.

Already possessing construction qualifications, with Issy achieving a HNC in Construction and the Built Environment, and Harkirat achieving a BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying, this course will provide our new recruits with a structured, building control focussed training program that will further develop their professional skills and aid their growth into eventually becoming qualified Building Control Surveyors. Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, the training will be delivered online combined with ‘on the job’ experience and once successfully completed, our trainees will become Associate members of CABE – The Chartered Association of Building Engineers.

We have proven success in providing a technical path for our own Trainee Surveyors to become fully qualified Building Control Surveyors and to date, we have had three members of staff successfully complete their training programmes and continue with our training and development ambitions into 2021.

In 2021, Gareth Sims and Jason Roderick will be embarking on a NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Building Control (QCF), this will enable them to reach the next stage with us and gain the relevant experience and knowledge to become full members of CABE. In addition to this, one of our Senior Team Technical Administrators, Jessica Houselander-Cook, will soon be starting an NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Building Control Technical Support. We hope that this will further Jessica’s technical understanding of building control and she will find this useful within her role, the aim is to then roll this out further across the administration teams.

‘We are thrilled to have two new trainees on board with us. We have an internal training plan in place for them which will slowly introduce them to the different areas of the business and the finer detail of Building Control. They will shadow our experienced Surveyors out on site, and work with a ‘buddy’ to undertake technical assessments of projects. I look forward to watching their skills develop over the next few years.’

Operations Director, Andy Clark

All of the mentioned courses are awarded by the ABBE (Awarding Body for the Built Environment) and accredited by CABE, we are confident that they will be of huge benefit to our trainees and to the future success of our business.
