Cook Brown Building Control were appointed to provide Building Control services in connection with the installation of a new climbing wall area at The Climbing Academy in Bristol. The project involved the creation of a modern indoor climbing facility designed to enhance the existing centre and provide additional recreational and training space for climbers of varying abilities.

The works included the installation of specialist climbing wall structures alongside associated alterations to accommodate the new activity area safely within the building. Due to the nature of the facility, careful consideration was required in relation to structural design, impact protection, access arrangements and fire safety provisions to ensure the completed space complied with current Building Regulations requirements while supporting the operational needs of the climbing centre.

The development was designed to provide a high quality and engaging environment for both experienced climbers and beginners, contributing to the continued growth of indoor climbing facilities within Bristol. The completed climbing area combines practical design with a modern industrial aesthetic, creating an attractive and functional recreational space.

Our involvement included carrying out plan assessments and undertaking site inspections throughout the installation works to monitor compliance with relevant Building Regulations. This included reviewing structural elements, means of escape, ventilation and general safety considerations associated with the use of the climbing facility.

The completed project has successfully delivered an exciting new climbing environment for The Climbing Academy, providing an enhanced experience for visitors while supporting the continued popularity of indoor climbing and fitness activities within the city.
