Student Accommodation, UWE

Client: University of the West of England

Cook Brown Building Control was appointed to provide Building Control services for the University of the West of England’s major new student accommodation development, designed to support the university’s growing student population with high quality and sustainable living spaces.

The project involved the construction of a 900 bed student accommodation scheme built to Passivhaus standards, comprising three separate residential buildings together with associated communal facilities and landscaped external areas. The development was designed to deliver energy efficient accommodation with a strong focus on sustainability, occupant comfort and long term building performance.

Initially tendered in 2019, the scheme progressed through the design stages during the Covid 19 pandemic, requiring close collaboration between all parties involved to maintain project progression and coordinate the delivery of the development throughout a particularly challenging period for the construction industry.

Working alongside the wider project team, Cook Brown Building Control supported the scheme throughout the construction process, assisting with compliance across all stages of the development and helping facilitate the successful certification of the buildings.

The completed development now provides modern and sustainable accommodation facilities that support student wellbeing and enhance the wider university campus environment.
