Martin Pounds

Senior Building Control Surveyor, BSc (Hons) MCABE

My work background:

The first six years of my career started in small private Building Surveying practices mostly undertaking submissions on CAD for Planning and Building Control along with Contract Administration and Surveys. From there I progressed into Local Authority Building Control for over fifteen years in Hampshire and Berkshire before joining Cook Brown Building Control in 2018.

About my role:

I undertake technical and professional work for the Building Control service to ensure compliance with the Building Regulations. This involves Plan Checking and Site Inspections and offering Technical Guidance to achieve compliance in a collaborative way.

About me:

I like the outdoors and enjoy mountain walking/scrambling and walking long-distance paths when time allows. I enjoy a bit of DIY and have never yet met anyone in Building Control who does not. I also enjoy the odd bit of birdwatching. I am happily married with three children. We have a very disobedient black Labrador called Teddy.

Random facts:

I once walked 192 miles from one side of England to the other on the Coast to Coast path in one of the wettest summers on record. The most ostentatious work project I have been involved with (so far) is a former mansion of Mick Jagger’s where the four light fittings in a bathroom cost £250,000.
