We are pleased to be delivering Building Control services, as the Approved Inspector, for a new housing development on the Former Brooks Laundry site in St Werburghs, Bristol.

We are delighted to have been appointed to undertake Plan Assessment and Site Inspection services working, once again, on behalf of Acorn Property Group and Halsall Construction.

The site has an interesting history dating back to the 19th Century. It was formally used as Industrial Units by Brooks Dyers and Cleaners – a family-owned factory which successfully operated for one hundred and thirty-five years. Locals of the area will recognise the site by its iconic chimney, a distinct feature which will be retained, as the site has been designed to sit around this local landmark.

This £40 million regeneration project will deliver 105 new homes to the area as well as a commercial community space. Twenty-four of these homes will be affordable housing in the form of intermediate rented and shared ownership properties. The remaining eighty-one will be private residential homes consisting of two-bedroom apartments and two, three- and four-bedroom houses. Each home will benefit from contemporary finishes, open plan flexible design and outside space with parking.

“It is great to be involved in another regeneration project with Acorn Property Group and Halsall Construction; this is an exciting venture in a great location which will provide affordable housing and opportunities for first time buyers. We have successfully worked with those involved in this scheme before and we are looking forward to having further success with this project and expanding our residential portfolio.”

Principal Building Control Surveyor, Eamonn Fay

As well as the regeneration of a derelict site rich in history, the development will also benefit the local area by featuring new pedestrian routes that will connect the surrounding communities. Brooks Dye Works has the benefit of being in close proximity of Bristol City Centre, this in turn will help to improve the new housing supply demand in the city, whilst proving a benefit to new residents of these homes giving them easy access across the city.
