IV Real Estate appointed us to provide Approved Inspector Services on the renovation and conversion of two existing Bristol City Centre buildings, 37-39 and 41 Corn Street.
37-39 Corn Street, which is now known as Gilbert House, is a Grade II listed Art Deco style building that has been fully restored into five upper floors of contemporary office accommodation, and a ground floor restaurant bar area. It was originally built in 1933 by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, architect and designer of the red telephone box, and it was initially used as a bank. Gilbert took inspiration from his iconic telephone box design incorporating it into the design of the buildings window panes. These original features and many others from this Art Deco period have been restored and the overall result is a characterful finish with a perfect blend of period features and modern furnishings.
41 Corn Street also underwent a transformation into open plan office space, with both buildings gaining additional amenities in the form of cycle storage, shower facilities and new roof terraces.
‘This is a prominent building on a historical street right in the City Centre, it has been great to see it repurposed and brought back to life but kept in keeping with its historical past. We have worked on a lot of office refurbishment projects in the area and it’s great to have been involved in this one and to be able to add it to our growing portfolio.’
Sam Coombs, Building Control Surveyor
The office accommodation has seen a place in the news recently with it being reported that the space is being leased for the highest amount the city has ever seen. This is testament to the exceptional space that has been created in this highly desirable location.
