Acorn Property Group are in the midst of creating a new sustainable neighbourhood in Frome, Somerset. Located on the plot of the former Butler, Tanner and Dennis printing press, ‘The Old Printworks’ development comprises 157 new dwellings, made up of two, three and four bedroom homes.

We were appointed to provide full Building Control services, including plans assessments and site inspections, for the duration of the project through to completion.  Works began in late 2019 and are scheduled to be fully complete in 2023. Phase 1, completed earlier this year, saw the opening of high-quality show homes and in turn the developers have welcomed in their first set of buyers.

Acorn, like with every development, have given careful consideration to sustainability and the natural surroundings. They have applied a fabric-first approach to materials aimed at reducing carbon footprint and lowering energy bills. Each home is constructed with a timber frame, eco stock bricks, triple glazing windows, energy saving appliances and lighting and communal and private electric car charging is also available. The development also benefits from a sustainable urban drainage system, in which the rainwater from the houses and roads is collected, stored and then slowly released back into the River Frome.

“It is great to see Acorn Property Group bringing a site full of history back to life yet again. We have worked with Acorn on a number of projects across the South West over the last few years, including a similar development at Brooks Dye Works in Bristol and we look forward to seeing what is to come in the future.”
