Following our recent 8th anniversary, we have been reflecting on projects and clients we have worked with over the years. With involvement in over 150 of their projects, we are pleased to celebrate that we have been providing Building Control advice and assisting with achieving Building Control compliance to DHV Architects for over six years.

DHV Architects are an innovative, design-led RIBA Chartered Practice based in the creative heart of Bristol. They specialise in historic building conservation and residential, mixed-use and masterplanning projects. Their work includes: major heritage assets; churches and cathedrals; regeneration; conservation and repairs; residential developments; home extensions and renovations.

Over the last six years we have worked on a variety of projects from several sectors, a few of these include:

Curzon Cinema, North Somerset

DHV are leading the project team on refurbishment works to this Grade ll listed, independent traditionally run cinema that is one of the country’s oldest continually running cinemas. It is a focal centre of seaside town Clevedon, showing mainstream and art house films. The proposals include the reinstatement of some of the historic drop-down seats using some of the extensive parts that the Cinema holds in its archives and the introduction of new lounge-style seating to the enlarged rear tiers.

Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol

This project involved the creation of a striking wrap-around extension to a semi-detached Victorian house. The dwelling was  transformed into a light and airy family home with the   addition of a large single-storey extension with generous double corner glazing and three sets of sliding doors. This project was complete with a special feature, a spectacular glass door fronted wine cellar accessed from the dining room.

Following the build, the interior of this project was styled by Ivywell Interiors. Elke Dittrich, Director of DHV Architects, co-founded Ivywell Interiors in August 2020 as an extension of DHV Architects. “Interiors are the natural continuation of my architectural work. Helping clients make their newly extended or renovated house feel like home with Ivywell Interiors it enables us to provide an end-to-end service”

Wrington, North Somerset

This was a full bungalow that comprised a full remodel of a small, outdated bungalow to include an attached garage, separate office, ground floor bedroom, large open plan kitchen/dining/living area, and two upstairs bedrooms with an en-suite and bathroom. In order to preserve the valuable rear garden, it was decided to extend the ground floor to the side of the bungalow and demolish the existing garage. The side extension was designed as a gabled volume that reflects the existing bungalow; the massing is articulated in two separate elements, thus reducing the visual impact of the extension. In total, the floor area was increased by 225%.

Many of our clients and projects do not follow the norm and push boundaries. We understand this and make it our goal not to stifle your creative instinct. We strive not to tell you it cannot be done, but to suggest ways in which you can make it work. Like you, we also like to think outside of the box.

With extensive experience in both the commercial and domestic sectors, we know how your project works. Get in touch with our team to discuss any upcoming projects, 01275 848228 or info@cookbrown.co.uk.
