Beckford Gate, Bristol
Client: MEO Projects
We were appointed by MEO Projects to provide Registered Building Control Approver services on the construction of Beckford Gate, an exclusive residential development comprising four luxury apartments located on one of the iconic approaches into the City of Bath. Positioned adjacent to the historic Beckford monument, the scheme occupies a prominent and highly sensitive location within the city’s renowned architectural setting.
The development was carefully designed to complement the character and appearance of the surrounding area, with the building constructed using traditional Bath Stone to reflect the distinctive local architecture synonymous with the city. Behind the traditional exterior, the structure incorporates a modern Steel Framing System (SFS), providing an efficient and robust construction solution while supporting the architectural design of the development.
The apartments were designed to provide spacious open plan living accommodation with high quality finishes and contemporary internal layouts. Due to the creative open plan design approach, the project incorporated a water mist fire suppression system as a compensatory feature to support the overall fire safety strategy and assist in achieving compliance with Building Regulations requirements. The integration of this system required close coordination between the project team and careful consideration throughout the design and construction process.
Our role included undertaking detailed plan assessments and carrying out regular site inspections throughout the build to monitor compliance with all relevant Building Regulations. Particular attention was given to fire safety provisions, structural elements, thermal performance and the integration of modern building systems within the development.
The completed scheme has delivered a high quality residential development that successfully combines contemporary apartment living with materials and detailing that respect Bath’s historic architectural character, creating an impressive addition to this prestigious gateway location into the city.
